New Favorite Thing: She & Him

She & Him: A band consisting of M. Ward and the marvelous Zooey Deschanel. So far they have 2 cds out, Volume One and Volume Two.

Pros: Their music videos are the best. My personal favorite is the one they did with Joseph Gordon-Levitt for (500) Days of Summer. Their newest one involves dancing and hula-hoops and is pretty great, too.

Cons: I cannot sing like Zooey or play the guitar like M. Ward.

Verdict: My favorite songs are "Sentimental Heart," "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here," "In the Sun," and "Lingering Still," but really I love them all.

New Favorite Thing: John Krasinski

John Krasinski: An adorable actor best known for his role as Jim in The Office. He also stars in Here We Go, and wrote, directed, and acted in Brief Interviews with Hideous Men. He's so talented!

Pros: Just look at him! He's the best thing about The Office.

Cons: Well...he's taken. But the lucky girl is none other than Emily Blunt so I suppose it is fine. They are a very cute couple.

Verdict: If he were really working at an office, I would definitely want to work there too, no matter how dull it would be. I could be Pam!

New Favorite Thing: Torchwood

Torchwood: A spin-off of the absolutely fantastic new Doctor Who series.

Pros: John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness. If you like Firefly and Nathan Fillion as Captain Malcolm Reynolds, you may very well feel like he is re-incarnated as Captain Jack. Burn Gorman is also a definite plus.

Cons: You'll be hooked after the first episode and will have to watch all three seasons. When you've finished them all, you'll be crying. Unless you are an alien with no feelings, in which case: watch out for Torchwood.

Verdict: There are rumors that Fox will be doing a spin-off set in America. It will absolutely NOT be the same, but I will have to watch it nevertheless.

New Favorite Thing: Threadless

Threadless: An online store based in Chicago that has the BEST t-shirts around.

Pros: The shirts are way creative and sooooo soft and comfy.

Cons: As I am a college student, I cannot buy all the shirts like I would like.

Verdict: I will be visiting the physical store in Chicago over Spring Break but in the meantime, I believe I'll browse through the shirts that are on sale for only $10 this week.

New Favorite Thing: Gigantic

Gigantic: Paul Dano (Little Miss Sunshine) plays Brian, a man who works at a mattress store and dreams of adopting a baby from China. Throughout the process of adoption, the movie tells the story of how he meets and falls in love with a girl named Happy (Zooey Deschanel).

Pros: Paul Dano (it's nice to see him in a bigger role than Little Miss Sunshine) and Zooey Deschanel (who is great in everything)

Cons: There are these weird scenes with a man who is a figment of Brian's imagination. He is constantly attacking him and he doesn't really seem to fit into the story. I'm sure the guy represents something significant that I just don't understand, but it's still a great movie.

Verdict: I watched it on Netflix, but whenever I can find the DVD, I'm going to buy it!

New Favorite Thing: Andrew Bird

Andrew Bird: Brilliant multi-instrumental musician.

Pros: His amazing violin and whistling talent along with his beautiful lyrics.

Cons: I can't whistle along with his songs.

Verdict: He is on my list of people to see in concert before I die. And we need to get married. Stat!

New Favorite Thing: Chicago

Chicago: the windy city, the Chicago Art Institute, deep-dish pizza, and so much more.

Pros: the pretty buildings, being in a city that is not New York, beautiful artwork in the Art Institute.

Cons: I live 800 miles away.

Verdict: I wish I were able to visit Chicago more often (and also not with such a big group). Spring break?

New Favorite Thing: Matthew Goode

Matthew Goode: British actor in movies like A Single Man and Leap Year, most recently.

Pros: Oh my goodness just look at those blue eyes. And that accent? Oh my!

Cons: He was in the not so excellent readaptation of Brideshead Revisited which was tedious to watch, to say the least. Also starred in Chasing Liberty with Mandy Moore, unfortunately.

Verdict: As much as I loved his Irish accent in Leap Year, I would take him as is any day of the week.

New Favorite Thing: Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg: British actor in such films as Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Run Fatboy Run, and most recently, Star Trek. Also writes and directs!

Pros: Oh so funny and also does many movies with the endearing Nick Frost.

Cons: Is married/middle aged.

Verdict: As Hot Fuzz is one of my favorite movies, I would watch a Simon Pegg film any day of the week.

New Favorite Thing: Bomb in a Birdcage

Bomb_In_A_Birdcage_by_A_Fine_Frenzy.jpg image by ieoor
A Fine Frenzy: Indie songstress with interesting, thought-provoking lyrics to boot.

Pros: I am especially in love with the first six songs of her new cd, lyrics like "How can a body contain something so great/ My shell may suddenly break out will come birds".

Cons: I am not a big fan of about three songs on the cd, and also, my voice does not and will never sound like hers.

Verdict: Although this is not an album I will be listening to straight through (like her first), a majority of the songs are frequenters of my "what i am listening to now" playlist on iTunes.

New Favorite Thing: Charlie

Charlieissocoollike: Youtube sensation, member of the Chartjackers, friends with Alex Day, etc.

Pros: Superb ukulele skills, British accent, not to mention pretty darn cute.

Cons: Lives all the way in England, does not post new Youtube videos very often anymore.

Verdict: I really wish I could go to VidCon to see him in person. Or to England, I am not picky. We could do an awesome ukulele duet together.

New Favorite Thing: Blogging

Blogs: there are over 112,000,000 that exist (thank you Wikipedia), and still people decide to add more. People like me. Blogs like this.

Pros: Sharing a part of yourself in the hope that someone or many in the massive void that is the Internet will see and feel some sort of connection, feeling like you are a part of something bigger than yourself, plus the confidence booster that follows when people follow.

Cons: Takes up time that could be otherwise spent reading a book or socializing, and it can be just a tad egotistical.

Verdict: Regardless of whether or not people read, it is meaningful to me, so it will continue, thank you very much. That sentence had much too many commas I apologize.
